Planning Guidance

Start with purpose and reader.

State what the page helps someone inspect. Write for an internal tester reading the preview, and keep each heading and paragraph focused on that purpose.

Make the next destination clear.

Name the next page in plain English. After the planning guidance, Design Briefs is the next reading destination. Its label should make that choice understandable before the reader opens it.

Make the next destination clear.
A useful destination label tells the reader where to continue; it does not leave them to guess what comes next.

Keep the English concise.

Use a descriptive heading and short paragraphs. Give each paragraph one idea, remove wording that repeats it, and read the text at a narrow width as well as on a larger screen.

Inspect what is visible after an update.

Reopen the affected page in the preview. Read its heading, body copy, and destination labels again. Base your observations on the content displayed, rather than assuming an intended edit is already visible.
